The first step is admitting that you have a problem.

But here’s the “funny” part: Not long after I finished building these shelves and populating them with my too-large CD collection… we found that our basement had a pretty serious drainage issue. Which meant that the (recently-installed) carpet would have to be torn up and the drywall removed. Oh, also? Tight-lipped men with jackhammers would be digging a trench all the way around the interior perimeter of our basement. So I had to put all the CDs back in boxes and take the shelves down.

But a month later, I put them all back up again! Huzzah!

Right around that time, a second set of contractors arrived to begin the seismic retrofitting.
