Paul’s Basement

Back in mid-2005, some friends and I slapped together a website (paulsbasement.org, no longer visible, sadly) where we could post some autobiographical things we had been writing. Later, we hosted Paul’s Basement parties, wrote a few songs together, posted a bunch of short films we made, and even had t-shirts printed.

Those were heady times, but eventually we were overtaken by the business of raising families and getting the oil changed in the Prius, and also Paul got bored and stopped maintaining the site. Sadly, what began as an exciting forum for celebrating our shared history now lies fallow.

Which is why I moved all of my stuff here.

And Then… (2006)

Hoping to present something “politically relevant” which “speaks to the concerns of our generation,” Jason opts to read a sci-fi short story he wrote in junior high.

Road to Tacoma, Part I

In January 1984, Matt, Jason, Eric, Paul (and a bunch of other folks) traveled to the bustling metropolis of Tacoma, Washington, to see Genesis (or possibly Gene Siskel; my memory is unreliable) live at the mighty Tacoma Dome.

Road to Tacoma, Part II

In this episode, Eric experiences terrifying flashbacks of his sojourn in the underworld, Jason visits the Optical Department at Sears, and Paul drives over one of Matt’s shoes. Why? It’s art, that’s why.

Driven to Tears

In 1983, Eric and I were dedicated concertgoers, often getting in line 12 or more hours before the show, braving the dangers of inclement weather, tyrannical security personnel, and aggressive street musicians.

Jason Goes to Hell: Part II

The wound in my stomach had (mostly) stopped bleeding, so there seemed to be no reason I couldn’t dig a drainage field or break up some concrete.
