Jason Toews and fifi (the band)

Industrial Site 01, September 2011

This gallery marks a milestone, in that this is the first location which I discovered and explored solo, without the usual hand-holding from my UE mentors. For that reason, I have a special fondness for this place. Plus, it’s beautiful – the complex is surrounded by trees, situated on a pond, and a canal carries water between the brick buildings. Ferns and vines and moss are gradually taking over every exterior surface, destroying the mortar and dislodging bricks. Inside the buildings, there are huge open spaces broken up by massive concrete columns; dark and humid basements pierced by shafts of light; rusting, hulking machinery; ancient control panels with mysterious levers and meaningless gauges; and lots of asbestos warning signs.
